Before you begin...

Before you can use your SIGN8 USB eToken for signing, the following steps are required:

Preparation

Fill out the application form

  • After placing your order, you will receive a link to an application form.
  • Set a pick-up password (Abholpasswort).
    • This password is required to load the certificate onto the token. Please store it securely.


Identification

  1. Complete the identification process using one of the provided identification methods.

Confirmation email

After successful identification, you will receive an email containing:
  • Your reference number for certificate enrolment.
  • Links to the required apps:
    • SIGN8 Enrollment App (for setting up the token and retrieving the certificate).
    • SafeNet Client Authentication App (for managing certificate data such as PIN and PUK).

Installing the Required Software

Important: Do not connect the token to your computer until the software has been installed.

SafeNet Token Authentication Client

The SafeNet software must be installed to manage your USB-Token.
  1. Download the software from Downloads - E-Signaturen von SIGN8
  2. Start the installation:
    • Double-click the MSI file.
    • Close other programs and click "Next".
  3. Select your language and confirm with "Next".
  4. Accept the license agreement and proceed.
  5. Choose the installation location and click "Next".
  6. Select installation type: "Typical".
  7. Click "Install" to begin installation.
  8. Click "Finish" after the installation is complete.

SIGN8 Enrollment App

  1. Start the installation file (double-click).
  2. Enable the option "Launch when ready" and click "Install".

Initializing the USB Token

Initialise your token to install the certificate. If you have already initialised your token, skip this step.
Note: The initialisation process will delete any existing certificates on the token. If the application was already open before the USB key was inserted, it will need to be restarted.
  1. Connect the USB Token to your PC.
  2. Open the SIGN8 Enrollment App.
  3. Click "Initialize Token".


  4. Read the statement and check the box "I have read and understood the statement".
  5. Click "Next".
  6. Select your token and enter a label.
  7. Click "Next".

  8. Check the box "Use default admin password" to automatically display the password, or manually enter your token password.

  9. Click "Next".
  10. Set a new token password:
    • Enter the password in the "New Token Password"* field and confirm it.
    • Enter a new admin password in the "New Admin Password"* field and confirm it.



  11. Click "Initialize Token" and wait for the process to complete.

Certificate enrollment

Option A:

  1. Click "Enroll Certificate".


Option B:

If you skipped the initialization, insert the USB token into your device before opening the Enrollment App.

  1. Open the SIGN8 Enrollment App.
  2. Click "Enroll Certificate".


Log in with your retrieval credentials:

  • Use the pick up password you set during the application process.
  • The reference number is in the email you received after successfully signing the application.


Note:
If you did not receive this email:

  • Check your spam folder.
  • Ensure you completed and signed the application successfully.

Select your token:

  1. Click the "Token"* field and select your token.
  2. Click the folder icon in the Destination Folder field and select your destination folder.


  3. Enter the token password set during initialization and click "Proceed".
    The certificate will be generated and imported onto the token

Confirmation

  • Once you see the message "Your certificate has been created", the process is complete.
