Set up and use the SafeNet Authentication Client

The SafeNet Authentication Client is software designed for the management and use of USB tokens. The client enables digital signatures for documents, secure authentication for websites, VPNs, or corporate networks, protection of certificates and keys by ensuring that private keys never leave the token, and management of token PINs, certificates, and other security-related settings.

Download the SafeNet Authentication Client
1. Download the SafeNet Authentication Client from the appropriate SIGN8 website: https://sign8.eu/downloads/client/

Installation of the SafeNet Authentication Client

2. Run the installation file.

3. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard:
  1. Accept the license terms.
  2. Choose the standard installation or custom installation (standard is recommended).
  3. Click Next and then click Install.

USB Token Detection

4. Insert your USB token into an available USB port:

  1. Open the SafeNet Authentication Client.
  1. Check if the token is detected: In the main window of the SafeNet Client, the token should appear under Token Information; if not, try a different USB port or reinstall the driver.

Token Management

Set or change token PIN
  1. Click on the detected token in the SafeNet Client:
  2. Select Change PIN or set a new PIN if the token is being used for the first time.
  3. Confirm the change.

    Check certificates on the token

    1. Open the SafeNet Authentication Client:
    2. Click on the detected token and select Certificate Management; here, the installed digital certificates will be visible.

    Use USB Token
    7. The token can now be used for digital signatures in various applications, such as:
    1. Adobe Acrobat (for PDF signatures)
    2. Microsoft Office (digitally signing documents)
    3. OpenSSL or other CLI tools (signing files)
    4. Specialized software for government agencies and businesses (e.g., for qualified electronic signatures)
    5. etc.

    Remove Token
    1. Open the SafeNet Authentication Client, select the token, and click on Secure Remove.

    2. Remove the USB token from the port.
