Certificate management with the SafeNet Authentication Client app

Management of local certificates on USB tokens with the SIGN8 SafeNet Authentication Client app

This article provides a detailed guide on using the SafeNet Authentication Client app to manage your SIGN8 USB token.

1. Change password & unlock token

Change password


    1. Open the SafeNet Authentication Client app and click on Change Token Password.

    2. Enter the current password and the new password, then confirm by clicking OK.

    3. If your new password does not meet the security guidelines, adjust it until the requirements are fully met.

    Unlock Token

    If you have forgotten your token password or your token is locked, it can be unlocked using the administrative password (PUK):

    1. Right-click on the token and select Unlock Token.

    2. Enter the administrative password and confirm by clicking OK.

    3. Set a new token password and confirm the change.

    4. If you do not have the administrative password, you will not be able to change the token password and will need a new USB token.



    2. Token management via the SafeNet Authentication Client app

    Rename USB Token

    1. Right-click on the token and select Rename.

    2. Enter the current PIN and confirm by clicking OK.

    3. Assign a new name and confirm by clicking OK.


    Manage Certificates

    1. Import Certificates

    If you want to import an existing certificate into the SafeNet Authentication Client app:

    1. Right-click on the token and select Import Certificate.

    2. Select Import Certificate from File and click OK.

    3. Choose the corresponding P12 or PFX file.

    4. Enter the certificate password and confirm by clicking OK.


    2. Export Certificates

    1. Right-click on the certificate and select Export Certificate.

    2. Choose the location on your computer.

    Note: Exporting the private key is not possible!


    Initialize Token

    Warning: Initializing the token will permanently erase all data. Only proceed with this step after consulting SIGN8.

    1. Right-click on the token and select Initialize Token.

    2. Confirm the process and follow the instructions.
